Smiling from the inside

Image
Smiling from the inside 🍒 . . . Sometimes it’s difficult to see or feel happiness when you feel you’re lost at sea. We all have our cross to bear, to varying degrees.. and nobody gets through life untouched by a struggle. For me, after a challenging year, it’s both heart warming and strangely unfamiliar, when I experience days like today. Contentment, ease, joy and relief. . . . Genuine belly laughs, good people who celebrate me (both at my best & my worst), hope for the future, and a resilience that I never knew I had, have allowed me withstand the turbulence of the storm. . . . Nothing ever stays the same. Life is tough, and the world can be cruel. Embrace the moments when your mind is at peace and your heart is warm. These are the bits to stay for 💚

Monday Mindset

Image
Monday Mindset 🖤 . . Something I’ve been exploring personally for some time, is self confidence. My experience of adolescence, and transitioning from my twenties to my thirties, has provided me with ample food for thought.  Confidence is a quality that we have an inherent reluctance to embrace. It can often be perceived as arrogance, and there’s most definitely a fine line between the two. Nobody wants to be the friend who hogs the limelight, the smug colleague, or the egotistical sibling. Should this mean however, that we carry ourselves in a self deprecating way, and live with a constantly disparaging internal dialogue? Most definitely not. . . Quite the paradox; those who appear self-confident and self-assured, are often those who struggle to see there own self worth. Similarly, those who present as quiet and perhaps shy, can have a steady self-esteem and an unwavering belief in themselves. . . How does one improve their confidence from within, and in turn...

Female friendships are fucking extraordinary

Image
There’s nothing quite like spending four days abroad, in very close proximity to ten other women. Some of these beauties I’d never met before, and others I’m lucky enough to have had in my life for years.  I think it’s a testament to us all, but most importantly a testament to our beautiful Claire, that we “holiday-ed” as seamlessly, effortlessly and fabulously as we did. We laughed until our bellies ached, danced like not a sinner was watching, nearly got ourselves killed a few times crossing roads, cycled for a few hours to earn some booze on a bike, Sparty’d the limbs off ourselves, took a combined total of ten thousand photographs, and consumed copious amounts of delicious food and cocktails. It’s been both refreshing and heartwarming to spend time with these women who have many differences, but even more similarities. Bonding with people I otherwise would never have met was an absolute privilege.  I’ve now exceeded a tolerable level of sentimentality, and so, in the...

And despite it all .. I am

Image
A picture tells a thousand words.. it also hides a multitude. So quick are we to showcase our joyous escapades and our accomplishments, yet more cautious of revealing what lurks in the shadows. In a world that capitalises on negative self image, materialistic ideals and our desire to attain the “perfect” life;  I feel it’s important, well important for me, to always be authentic and real.  This picture signifies a lot for me. It reminds me that despite my struggles, I can still smile. Despite my pain, I can still feel joy. Despite my fear, I can still have courage. Despite my tears, I can still laugh. Despite feeling alone, I can still be a friend. Both darkness and light can co-exist within us, similarly sadness and happiness, turmoil and peace. It’s ok to feel both, and everything in between. Keep it real people ✌🏼

Friendship

If you can count your real friends on one hand, you have everything you need. Any more; and you’ve hit the jackpot. I think all of us have heard these words at some stage throughout our lives;  if not something of similar effect. It’s an expression I have heard countless times, but only in recent years fully understood and believed. Like many, I have found that with my increasing age, there's been a sizeable decrease in my circle of close friends. This has not come to be, without expected feelings of loss, but on the whole, I believe it be a natural and positive shift. In my early twenties, whilst navigating my way, cluelessly might I add, into adulthood, I often looked at others and their large crew of gal pals with envy. I never struggled to make friends, yet I often felt I didn’t belong to a solid core group. I often observed my sister, and her posse and wondered why I didn’t have the same. I viewed this as a personal failing for the most part, and imag...

Finding our “No”

What is it with saying no that we find as humans so difficult?  Personally, it’s something I have always struggled to grapple with, and I am certain I’m not on my own, in holding somewhat negative connotations towards this short but powerful word.   I feel that growing up in the nineties, saying “no”, along with questioning authority, and asserting yourself, were not encouraged. On the contrary, they were often deemed to be disrespectful, inappropriate and well, simply not good behaviour. I am aware, to some, I may sound like I am beyond my years, when I reference ‘growing up in the nineties’, but it seems like a generation far removed from the teenage culture we observe today. I’d go as far as saying I envy the youth of today, in some regard. Today’s generation of teenagers and young adults, have a very clear vision of their rights and personal values. They voice their opinions with gusto, and seem to wear proudly, a self-assurance that definitely wasn’t as p...

Lets Talk Podcasts

'Late to the party' is my middle name...This rings true for everything in my life, and stretches much further than the literal meaning, which many would agree, is often true too. Podcasts are not something I can say I've been enjoying for years. To the contrary, I only really began listening to podcasts about a year ago.  Never one to sit on the fence, I instantly fell in love with not only some amazing podcasts, but also the amazing people behind them. In listening to the experiences of others, I found inspiration on days where I have been stuck, I found laughter when it felt like tears were all I could muster up, I found strength when I felt like giving up, and too I found I had a greater understanding of a number of different topics, I wouldn't otherwise have been equipped to string to sentences together about. Here are 6 of my favourite Podcasts. I enjoy some so much that I often go back for a second time, just in case of missed any nuggets of wisdom. 1. Happy Pla...
