Lets Talk Podcasts
'Late to the party' is my middle name...This rings true for everything in my life, and stretches much further than the literal meaning, which many would agree, is often true too. Podcasts are not something I can say I've been enjoying for years. To the contrary, I only really began listening to podcasts about a year ago. Never one to sit on the fence, I instantly fell in love with not only some amazing podcasts, but also the amazing people behind them. In listening to the experiences of others, I found inspiration on days where I have been stuck, I found laughter when it felt like tears were all I could muster up, I found strength when I felt like giving up, and too I found I had a greater understanding of a number of different topics, I wouldn't otherwise have been equipped to string to sentences together about. Here are 6 of my favourite Podcasts. I enjoy some so much that I often go back for a second time, just in case of missed any nuggets of wisdom.
1. Happy Place: This is hands down a must listen for anyone who has an interest in mental wellbeing, self care, and general feel good vibes. Fearne Cotton has recorded 2 Series, and her guests include Davina Mc Call, Matt Haig, Stephen Fry and Poorna Bell. Hands down my first love when it comes to podcasts.
2. The Laughs Of Your Life: This is new to my list, and is recorded and created by non other than the utterly gas Doireann Garrihy. It is different than any other podcasts I have listened to in that, it touches on real life issues, but sprinkled with a good dollop of humour. Found myself laughing out loud to this one in public places. If you like and/or need a good giggle, this ones for you.
3. The Blindboy Podcast: This podcast needs no introduction. Blindboy Boatclub is remarkable, in that he articulates down to a fine art what most of us in modern irish society are thinking. He offers a very humorous yet equally informative twist, on hard-hitting issues such homelessness, addiction and Brexit, as well as lighter topics like general resolutions, procrastination, CBT and much more.
4. The Good Glow: This is a particularly heartwarming podcast, and should definitely come with a **Kleenex** warning. Georgie Crawford, having being diagnosed with Breast Cancer, decided to create a space for women to talk about there life experiences, and the sometimes heart wrenching challenges they've faced. Inspirational beyond words, Georgie reflects on how a positive mentality as well as positive self care, along with the love of her family & friends, carried her through chemotherapy & into remission.
5. Under The Skin: Another first love of mine, this one is the cream of the crop. Russel Brand has always fascinated me, not only for his remarkable journey from chronic addiction to recovery, but for his intelligent and compassionate take on the human condition. This one is full on debates, and really interesting listening, if you like getting your teeth stuck into something. His guests include Candice Owens (this episode may trigger screaming out loud in frustration), Gabor Maté and The Happy Pear.
6. The Irish Times Women's Podcast: This podcasts was a slow burn for me, but I have grown to really enjoy it. Commuting to and from Dublin everyday to work, I found at times I neither wanted music, nor humour, nor emotionally charged listening. Kathy Sheridan touches on such a vast range of topics, as well as general current affairs. Really you can be met with anything in this one, and with over 200 episodes theres something for every mood.
